10 mei 2017. Naar de Boeing fabriek met Lesley Graves

Wednesday 10 May 2017. Visiting Boeing Seattle with Lesley Graves.

I discussed with Tony last night that it would be nice to visit the Boeing factory. Tony had already booked a tour for 2 people at 13.00. The website warned that photography should not be allowed during the tour and that cameras and mobile phones should remain in lockers. Christine brought me to Lesley’s house and Lesley drove me to the boeing factory. That was more than half an hour away. Arriving there it turned out that we were over an hour too early. Fortunatey, we could be transferred to an earlier tour.

The tour went by bus over the boeing area. It was impressive to see the different types of planes being assembled in different halls. The halls are huge and in one of them the Boeing 777 was built. There were 6 of these planes in one single hall. After the tour we could have a look in an exhibition hall where various Boeing parts were exhibited. Here we were allowed to make pictures. It was also an impressive visit and definitely worth it.

The Boeing Company, usually abbreviated to Boeing, is an American aerospace company, founded by William Edward Boeing. The headquarters is located in Chicago at the Boeing International Headquarters. Boeing is the world’s largest aircraft manufacturer for sales and the second is the number of devices delivered. Boeing is also the second largest producer of military products. The company is included in the Dow Jones Industrial Average.

The Boeing Everett Factory, in Everett, Washington, is an airplane assembly building owned by Boeing. Located on the northeast corner of Paine Field, it is the largest building in the world by volume at 13,385,378 m3 (472,370,319 cu ft) and covers 399,480 m2 (98.7 acres). This is the factory where the wide-body Boeing 747, 767, 777, and 787 are assembled.

Daar hebben we heerlijk fish and chips gegeten.

After visiting Boeing, Lesley brought me back to Christine and Tony, where I fully at ease put my stuff in my suitcase for my departure tomorrow.

In the evening, Christine and Tony took me to a seafood restaurant near them. We could walk there. We ordered and ate delicious fish and chips. This was actually the end of my America adventure because, because tomorrow I would have to return to the Netherlands.

All together, I experienced a great adventure. I have met with many involved and motivated American aquarium lovers. I was treated indescribably hospitally and I really hope that I will be asked again to come back and do my talk for these or other clubs in the USA.
